Sofia Vergara, the sexy and sultry actress on ABC’s hit TV show ‘Modern Family,’ was the highest paid actress last year on U.S. television, with estimated earnings of US$37 million, according to Forbes magazine.
It’s the third consecutive year that the Colombian-born actress took the top spot on this list.
Vergara, who is currently dating True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, reportedly earned US$325,000 per episode for her work on the popular sitcom last year.
In addition to Vergara’s TV work, the 42-year-old actress also made money from her endorsement deals with beverage, cosmetic, clothing and other companies. She also co-founded Latin World Entertainment, a talent, management and entertainment marketing firm, according to Forbes.
Vergara’s remarkable $37-million earnings in 2013 was way more than the top-earning TV actor, Ashton Kutcher, who earned US$26 million last year.
Sitting at No.2 is Mariska Hargitay of NBC’s ‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.’ The Emmy-winning actress earned about US$13 million last year, while Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, 28, of CBS’s ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ came in third, with US$11 million.
Rounding out the top spots were Julianna Margulies of the CBS legal drama ‘The Good Wife’ in a three-way tie with Ellen Pompeo of the ABC drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and Cobie Smulders of the CBS sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ These actresses earned an estimate of US$10 million each.
Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother) took the No. 7 spot with US$9.5 million; funny woman Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation) stood at No. 8 with US$7 million; Mindy Kaling of ‘the Mindy Project’ reportedly earned US$6.5 million in 2013. Kerry Washington of ‘Scandal,’ ‘New Girl’ Zooey Deschanel and sitcom veteran Courteney Cox finished the top 10 in a 3-way tie.
